If you are a manager or business owner you will already know that having a position of responsibility or running your own business can be incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with its own unique set of stresses.
I have over a decade of experience running my own successful private practice in a professional setting and have helped dozens of managers and business owners become better equipped to handle some of the common challenges.
Financial stress: This is perhaps the biggest stressor. There is always the pressure to meet financial goals, such as payroll, rent, and loan payments. This can be especially difficult during slow economic times or when a business is first starting out.
Time management: There never seem to be enough hours in the day. Business owners and managers are often juggling multiple tasks at once, such as marketing, sales, customer service, and operations. This can lead to feeling overwhelmed and burned out.
Employee issues: Finding and retaining good employees can be a challenge. Managers and business owners also have to deal with employee performance issues and interpersonal conflicts.
Market competition: Every business faces competition, and it can be tough to stay ahead of the curve. Manager and business owners need to constantly be innovating and adapting to stay competitive.
Uncertainty: The future is always uncertain, and this can be stressful in business. Managers and business owners often need to make decisions even when they don't have all the information.
Isolation: Business owners and managers can feel isolated because they are responsible for making all the decisions. They may not have anyone to confide in about the challenges they are facing.
Health: The stress of running a business can take a toll on a person's physical, emotional and mental health. Business owners and managers can be at risk of developing health problems such as insomnia, heart disease, high blood pressure, and anxiety.
Work-life balance: It can be difficult for managers and business owners to maintain a healthy work-life balance. They often work long hours and may have trouble disconnecting from work even when they are not at the office.

‘Paula asked me the right questions, provided feedback, support and gave encouragement. She made me realise that I have the capacity within me to get rid of my fears and break the barriers of boundaries that keeps me in my comfort zone. Working with her was the best thing that happened to me, to propel me into action for changes that I really want to happen in my life.’ Riezel – Business Owner in the Property Industry
‘I came to see Paula a few years ago and particularly through what has been a challenging period for me. I was unsure how a psychotherapist was going to help but she has made an amazing difference in allowing me to reframe some of the emotional issues in my life which contributed to stress and anxiety. The process allowed me to discover and learn a lot about my own behaviour, what things made me feel trapped and how I could learn and change my behaviour and emotional response to certain family relationships which have caused me issues during my life. It was not easy, probably one of the hardest things I've ever done, but also the most liberating experience I've ever had. I can't thank her enough for her help and support in showing me how to make the changes I needed to do. I've never felt more confident and content.’ Rory – Business Owner in the Property Industry, Angus
There were many “light bulb” moments during my journey with Paula, she is compassionate, warm, giving and non judgmental. I feel I am now more equipped to handle difficult and confronting situations and I can work through and process my reaction and emotions. I feel more in control both physically and mentally. Your journey with Paula will be fulfilling, the angst that can come with sorting through our “luggage” is worth it in so many ways. To gain an understanding of who we are and how we can invest in improving our mental and emotional health is priceless. It is said “it is the journey not the destination”, your journey with Paula will be enriching on so many levels. I feel very blessed that I had the opportunity to share my journey with Paula.' Clare – Business Owner in the Finance Industry, Dundee
'Paula is amazing. She certainly in a very short period of time, with very little effort shifted the way I thought and it has altered me for life. She gave me exactly what I was looking for even though I did not know what that was, but it is clear and apparent to me that my life is very different. I know that the catalyst for the shift was understanding how my mind works, just understanding a couple of small things, opened up my world. Paula was the perfect person to help me make the shift.’ Shelley – Business Owner in the Fitness Industry, Dundee
‘I was in need of professional support and Paula was referred to me through a friend of a friend. From the moment we spoke on the phone I knew I was in a safe pair of hands. Straight talking, an acute ability to listen deeply, Paula helped me get to grips with some life concepts that had previously entirely eluded me. I was prepared to work hard on this stuff and loved Paula’s method of providing homework with support and guidance. Everything delivered in a clear, systematic and caring way. This work is the gift that keeps on giving. I can’t recommend Paula highly enough. For someone to give you, for all intents and purposes a ‘new’ life, it is really the most extraordinary thing anyone could do for someone else and I will be forever grateful to her.’ Paula M – Business Owner in the Design Industry, Fife
